Style Guide: Blue Bedroom Ideas and Designs

Style Guide: Blue Bedroom Ideas and Designs

The pictures in the mood board go from dark blue to light blue. Each color creates a very different feeling in the room.

Before we get to the blue bedroom ideas and design tips in this post, remember to always test paint colors before painting the whole room. Test a sample of the paint color on a small section of your wall or on a piece of canvas. Since the color you see on the screen will be different in real life.

The Elegance of a Dark Blue Bedroom

A bedroom with a dark blue color palette, like the navy blue bedroom in picture (1), creates a more romantic, intimate, cozy, and luxurious bedroom.

A Little Bit of Green

The bedroom in picture (4) is more of a dark turquoise color, creating the most luxurious looking bedroom out of the bunch.

Going Bright and Light

A light shade of blue, a more pastel paint color, creates the feeling of a more spacious and brighter bedroom. Which you can see in the light blue bedroom in picture (5).

Also take note of the bedroom design in picture (6). How only one wall, the one behind the bed, is painted blue while the rest are in white. This creates a more toned down blue style in the bedroom. You could even go with all white walls and decorate the space with blue bedroom decor pieces, and blue furniture. You could use blue bed sheets, blue curtains, or even a blue painting hanging over the headboard to style the room blue.

3 Decorating Tips

  • Break up all a blue painted wall with neutral colored curtains (2)
  • Wainscoting and crown molding is another way to break up a flat wall and add some depth to it
  • Adding texture is another way to add depth and a subtle design element to a wall – just like the bedroom in picture (3). This can be done using a sponge (Textured Wall Painting Ideas: From Faux Wood to Linen Effects).

Style Guide: Green Bedroom Ideas

Style Guide: Green Bedroom Ideas

There are 2 things that you need to think about when decorating your bedroom with a green paint color palette. 1) What shade of green paint do you want to go with, and 2) How much green are you going to use? The green bedroom ideas below will help you transform your space.

1. The Shade of Green

Dark greens create a more intimate, romantic, and luxury feeling in the bedroom – just like the bedroom in picture (1). Then you have the lighter greens, seen in bedrooms (2 – 4).

The bright green in picture (5) combined with the wainscoting is ideal for modern homes.

And then you start getting to the really light green, like the mint green bedroom in picture (6), which will create a bright and spacious feeling room.

Adding Texture

What makes the dark green bedroom in picture (1) look so good, is that the paint has a subtle texture to it. This creates some depth to the flat wall. This can be easily achieved by using a sponge and two different shades of paint (Textured Wall Painting Ideas: From Faux Wood to Linen Effects).

2. How Much Green?

If you only want a little bit of green, and want to avoid repainting the room, then go with white walls and decorate the space with green linens, green furniture, or green bedroom decor – the bedroom in picture (7) is a good example of this. If you go with white walls, you could simply change the sheets to a different color (blue, grey) to give the space a complete color palette make over.

On the other side of the spectrum you have the space in picture (8), with all of the walls painted green and even the ceiling is painted green. But it is the large window that brings in the natural light, and the use of white bed linens that help make the space not be a dark and gloomy place.

A good middle ground is to paint a feature wall green. This is one wall in the room that you choose to stand out, while the other walls are painted a neutral color (white, grey, black). In the bedroom, this feature wall is usually the wall behind the headboard.

Farmhouse Storage and Organization Ideas

Farmhouse Storage and Organization Ideas

The farmhouse style will usually have a white base. So mostly everything is painted white, and then you’ll have raw materials being used for the furniture, decor, and storage pieces.

Open Storage

In farmhouses you’ll see that shelves are open, whether that is in the kitchen as seen in pictures (1) and (2), the bathroom, or in the dining room (3) (4). This means you’ll want to make sure that the pieces you store (kitchenware, dining ware, etc.) are good quality, as they will act as decor pieces in the room.

You can hide or group items on the shelves by putting them in wicker or wire baskets.

Premium Materials

You don’t see plastic in farmhouses. Instead they make use of traditional materials such as enamelware and wooden pieces.

You’ve also got other materials such as:

  • Porcelain – like the jar storing the rolling pins in picture (5)
  • Glassware – like the jars in picture (6)
  • Iron hooks – just like the coat rack in picture (7)
  • Or metal – the bread box in picture (8)

Here are Some Simple Farmhouse Style Storage Ideas

  • Wicker baskets (9) can be used to group smaller items together, such as food items, linens, remotes, stationary, firewood, or toilet roles
  • Wooden crates and trunks (10)
  • Wire baskets (11) can be used to store the same things as wicker baskets, just in a different style
  • Galvanized buckets and tubs (12) can be used to store linens, drinks, firewood, or magazines
  • A wooden rustic ladder can be used to hang up towels in the bathroom, magazines or blanket in the living room (13), or used to hang up clothes in the bedroom.

Design Tips on How To Create a Vintage Gallery Wall

Design Tips on How To Create a Vintage Gallery Wall

Here are some quick tips and ideas for creating your own vintage gallery wall:

  • Mix up different frames. You don’t need to have all of the frames the same designs. The more different they are the better – just like the living room gallery wall in picture (1)
  • Thrifting for your frames, or going on Etsy, would be the best way to build up your gallery wall. Vintage style picture frames are quite decorative. You have all of the growves, or curvy shapes (2).
  • Mix up rectangle frames with oval ones
  • And mix up small with large frames, just like the gallery wall in picture (3)
  • Why not include a vintage style clock (4), decor letters, vintage signs, or a mirror into the gallery wall layout
  • You can also create a more modern vintage look, with simple picture frames and black and white vintage style images inside – you can see this in picture (5) and (6)
