Makeover Guide: Blue Bathroom Ideas

Makeover Guide: Blue Bathroom Ideas

When changing your bathroom’s color scheme, you can either go the simple and easy route or there is the more remodeling option. I have divided the blue bathroom ideas below into these two sections.

1. Simple and Easy Makeover Changes

Take a look around the bathroom, and see what takes up a lot of visual space.

For example, the shower curtain doesn’t take up much physical space, but it does visually. So the color of it will really set the tone and style of the room.

What are some other items in the bathroom that can be repaint or replaced to help you create the blue color palette?

How about:

  • The window curtain
  • A frame around the mirror
  • The bathroom door
  • Painting the cabinet doors to create a blue bathroom vanity
  • A rug
  • Even the towels hanging up can add to the color scheme of the space

These types of items can easily be changed to style and add to the color palette of the bathroom.

2. Blue Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Here are some other features that are a little bit harder to redo but can also help style the bathroom blue:

  • The paint on the walls (even the ceiling)
  • The flooring
  • Any backsplashes and tiled areas you might have

The Shade of Blue

If you want to create a spacious and bright feeling space, then a white and light blue bathroom is the way to go. Whereas if you wanted to create a more secluded, romantic, and relaxing bathroom – then go with a dark blue wall paint color (along with dark navy blue furniture, decor, accessories and feature pieces).

A Bedroom With Style: Ideas for a Vintage Kids Room

A Bedroom With Style: Ideas for a Vintage Kids Room

It doesn’t take much to transform your kids room into a vintage wonderland. Here are some easy ways and ideas to give your kids room a vintage makeover.

Sweet Dreams

The bed is the main focal point in the bedroom. For a vintage bed, look for a farmhouse style one, just like the bed in picture (4). You can get one of those beds here. And you can always paint over it to add a pop of color to the room. Or a wooden bed would also work.

And if you want to take it one step further, then you can look for vintage style material to use as linens and bed sheets.

DIY Challenge: Give Your Closet Doors a Makeover – Ideas and Design Tips

DIY Makeover: Closet door ideas

If you think about it, your closet doors take up a lot of ‘visual space’ in your bedroom. This means that the style and design of them really impacts the style of the space. And it doesn’t take much to completely change the look and feel of them. Here is a list of DIY closet door ideas.

The 2 main ways to change the look of your closet doors are to:

  1. Change the color
  2. Add some depth

Adding depth. This is the easiest and most effective way to give your closet doors a makeover. And you’ll see in the DIY pictures below, that this is done mostly by adding trim/molding and new handles.

Doing A Simple Paint Job
Closet door paint DIY

This is the easiest DIY of them all. Give the closet doors a simple paint job, but use painters tape to create ‘faux trim’. By Gemma from The Sweetest Digs.

Sticking On Decorative Decal

Mirror closet door makeover DIY

What a simple way to add a decorative touch to mirrored closet doors. Roxanne from the Honeycomb Home used the services of Overlays to create a custom fit laminate that she stuck onto her daughters closet doors.

Adding Depth

Adding Embossed Wallpaper

Fawn showcased this DIY makeover on Remodelaholic where she used a $3.62 roll of paintable vinyl wall paper from Lowes. Also adding trim around the wallpaper for a more finished look.

Adding a Touch of Lux

Giving a Kids Closet a Makeover

Here is another closet makeover from Kris at Driven by Décor. This time she is in her daughter’s room. This makeover would also be ideal for a home office, pantry doors, closet doors near the front door – anywhere a bulletin board could come in handy.

The DIY Faux Barn Door Makeover

What was surprising about this DIY project by Monica from East Coast Creative is that she was able to use the same closet doors. 8 pine planks, 2 handles, and s a sharpie is what it took to create the DIY barn doors.

Repurposing a Ceiling Crown Medallion for a Closet Door

Here are 2 DIY closet door projects that use crown medallions to add some glamour to plain and boring closet doors.

Glamorous closet door makeover

Jennifer, from Dimples and Tangles, combined ceiling medallions and crystal door handles to create her closet door makeover.

Makeover: closet door ideas

And here is another example of a ceiling medallion being used to spruce up some closet doors. This time the medallion is a little more decorative, and the repainted doors add an elegant pop of color to the room. Found on Pop Sugar.

Replacing The Doors

Makeover: closet door ideas

I saved this one to last, since it takes the most effort, and requires replacing the doors. That is unless you have the swing out doors in the first place vs the bi fold ones. Traci from Beneath My Heart bought 2 $20 hollow core doors, and then added the wooden frame and slats to create her DIY barn doors.

Style Guide: Vintage Bathroom Lighting Fixtures and Ideas

Style Guide: Vintage Bathroom Lighting Fixtures and Ideas

Safety Note: Keep in mind that whatever style or kind of vintage bathroom lighting you use, they need to be rated for the bathroom. Since bathroom lights can get in contact with moisture, or if they are close to the sink or shower, get wet.

Different Vintage Light Fixtures: In a bathroom, you have the option of combining ceiling lights, wall lights, and vanity lights. Here is a quick list of the kind of lighting fixtures that you’ll want to use one way or another in a vintage bathroom:

  • Gooseneck
  • Pancake
  • Nautical lights / industrial guard
  • School house

The collage below shows what each one looks like. You can get these lights from Barn Light Electric.

Adding Lux with a Chandelier: Other lighting ideas include using a French style chandelier. And you can add a ceiling medallion around the chandelier, or even around other pendant or recessed lights (Design Ideas for Decorative Ceiling Medallions).

Brass Fittings: You could also use more modern light fixtures, but ones with brass fittings to add some vintage luxury character to the bathroom.
