Print and Paint: DIY Chalkboard Paint Posters

DIY Chalkboard Paint Poster

DIY Chalkboard Paint Poster

I thought it would be a good idea to combine printable graphics with chalkboard paint to create some custom chalkboard posters. So I headed off to The Graphics Fairy to hunt for the right graphics. I found a bee graphic that I combined with a simple frame. There was also a very decorative French frame that caught my eye.

Both of these graphics were printed on A3 glossy card at a printers. Each print cost around $3. The only steps to creating these posters were 1) get them printed 2) use chalkboard paint. Try and get as thick of a card as you can, since it can warp from the wetness of the paint. An alternative would be to cut out a piece of cardboard, lather the bad boy up in chalkboard paint, then glue that onto the poster.

For the bee poster, I used an IKEA NYTTJA 30×40 frame (just right for A3 sheets). I took out the plastic cover so the board can still be written on while in the frame.

The bee poster makes for a great ‘to do’ board, ideal for the kitchen command center or home office. The French frame one is quite small, and is better suited for events – being used as wedding boards (buffet labels, table labels, etc.).

Making Your Own

To create the French frame poster, you can just head on over to the Graphics Fairy page here and download the graphic to print. For the bee poster, click on the button below to save the graphic to take to the printers. Here is the page where I got the graphic from.

A Look Back: DIY Photograph Poster Prints

A Look Back: Use your photographs from 2013 to create your own posters

Since my Travel Confetti print turned out so well I thought I’d do another one, this time using the best moments of 2013. I went ahead and got it printed using the plotter printer (A1 black and white) and also on glossy A3 photo card. Both of these prints only cost me $3 each at my local printers.

Side by side with the A4 Travel Photo Confetti poster I did a while back. You can find the post here.

And here is the A1 plotter/blueprint print.

My 2013 Plotter Print

Doing it Yourself: This kind of thing is much easier to do in a photo editor program like Photoshop or Gimp. But it can also be done in a program like PowerPoint. Click on the buttons below for the template files (the plotter image is there, it is pure white so you can’t see anything. Just right click and save). The images are in the png format – so there are holes where the circles are. If you put your photographs behind the template image, they will show through.

The plotter print can be done in an A1 size, while the color print is best in A3. Hope this all helps, message me if you make them – love to see.

DIY Candle Photo Stands

DIY Photo Stands Candle Photo Holder DIY

A while ago I did this DIY post making photo stands using air drying clay. After seeing the FYRKANTIG candle blocks in IKEA, I figured these would make great photo stands too, and colorful ones. I went ahead and bought the green pack, though they also have a palette of reds.

This is defiantly the easiest way of creating your own DIY photo stands that I’ve seen. All you need to do is a) take out the wick, b) slowly cut a slit for the photo to stand in. Thats it!

It’s pretty great how the box of candles comes in different hues of green. Stay tuned, as I’ll be making custom candle molds to be used as photo stands – follow me on Pinterest here.
