Style Guide: 10 Vintage Kitchen Table Ideas and Designs

You don’t even need to buy a new table to create a vintage looking one in your kitchen. You can simply cover your existing table with a vintage style tablecloth. In this post you can find a list of vintage kitchen table ideas, from using tablecloths to different table designs.

Cover Your Existing Table

Stitch doilies onto an off white cotton table cloth to give it a little vintage style, just like the table in picture (1)

Lace is another tablecloth idea that will transform a kitchen table into a vintage looking one (2)

Or a vintage style tablecloth, like the one in picture (3) can be used to cover your existing table. You can get one in the Amazon window below.

Table Styles

If you have a small kitchen, then opt for a round wooden one, that has tapered legs. You can buy the one in picture (4) from Urban Outfitters.

If you do have space in your kitchen, then how about the kitchen table in picture (5). All you need to recreate this look is a wooden table, and white paint to paint everything but the tops. A classic look. Or you can buy a set already looking like this in the Amazon window above.

You can white wash a wooden table for a more shabby chic look. This is when you mix white paint with water and paint over furniture. It gives the furniture a light covering of paint, just like the table in picture (6).

A farmhouse style table is another way to go. The kitchen in picture (7) has a table with chipped white paint, and uses a bench instead of individual chairs.

If you can find some reclaimed planks of wood, these can be used to replace the top of your existing table (8).

If you want to add more color to your kitchen, then use light pastel colors to paint a wooden table. Paint colors such as mint, baby blue, or a really pale yellow would work well for a vintage kitchen. The table in picture (9) is quite bright, and has the chipped look effect for a more shabby chic look.

Vintage Kitchen Lighting Ideas: From School House Lights to Chandeliers

It’s all in the details. When it comes to designing a room, it’s crazy how much you need to plan and how pretty much every piece in the room needs to be hand selected to set the style you want to go for.

There are quite a few options when it comes to vintage kitchen lighting ideas. In this post I have broken I’ve broken it down into different sections, to make it easier to select the right light fixtures for your vintage kitchen.

The Different Vintage Light Fixture Styles

There is the pancake style light fixture, seen in the kitchens in pictures (1) and (2).
There is the more industrial style lights (3). Search for nautical light fixtures or industrial guard. These can be found as hanging ceiling lights or wall lights.
There are also the traditional school house light fixtures, seen in picture (4). You can get more colorful decorative bands – like mint, or baby blue, creating a more vintage style in the kitchen.
Gooseneck lights are ideal if you need to hang up wall lights. You can find these in the pancake style, seen in picture (5). Or there are more industrial, barn style gooseneck light fixtures.
And if you want to create a bit more of a refined vintage look in your kitchen, then use more modern light fixtures. Just look for ones with brass fittings.

Framing Your Lights

Ceiling medallions use to be a symbol of secrecy. These days they are used to decorate the ceilings of rooms. They can be used to frame chandeliers, pendant lights, or even modern recessed lights. Decorating the Kitchen With Hanging Lights

Pendant lights are used to bring light closer down from the ceiling onto countertops and work areas – making it easier to see what you are doing. Some of these areas include:

Kitchen island lighting
Over a kitchen table (Style Guide: 10 Vintage Kitchen Table Ideas and Designs).
Over countertops, a cooker, or a sink.

Some go to styles here include pancake pendant lights, or school house lighting.

Or how about hanging up an iron chandelier, or a glass crystal one – just like the chandelier in the kitchen in picture (6).

Adding A Table Lamp: A table lamp can be useful on a countertop or kitchen island to add light closer to the work surfaces. Go with a pastel lampshade, or a more traditional curved lamp shade. Have a look at my post here for some examples and ideas: Style Guide: Vintage Lighting Ideas.

Before and After: A Modern Rustic Kitchen Makeover

What I love about rustic kitchens is that the functional pieces (such as pots and pans) also act as decor. These functional pieces are made out of premium materials (copper, glass wood), so storing them out in the open adds to the style of the space.

Here are some features to keep an eye out for:

The DIY branch hook rack above the cooker
The exposed ceiling beam
The rustic wooden counter tops and shelves
The hand hammered copper sink from Home Depot
The simple but classic cabinet style of white cabinets with metal handles
