Vintage Style Wallpaper Designs

Here is a design tip from the Anthropology’s wallpaper department: “Love the print but can’t commit? Buy one wallpaper sheet and frame it – you’ll get the pattern pop without a room redo”.  Anthropology is one great place to buy vintage style wallpaper designs – pictures (1) and (2) are from them. Wayfair is another place with a great selection (5 – 10).

The pictures above show some great wallpaper designs. You’ve got the more decorative and graphical designs like the botanical and bird prints – while some other ideas include a Chevron pattern as seen in picture (11) or even a lace design (12). Or if you want to create a feature wall in the kitchen or home office, how about using a wallpaper with an image of a vintage styled map (13).

In our bedroom wallpaper post we showed a 3D textured wallpaper (also known as anaglyptic paper) which can be left white or be painted over (14). This kind of wallpaper can also be used to decorate the ceiling (15).

You can always create your own DIY design on top of the wallpaper. But if you are going to do that, you’d might as well paint the whole wall first and save a ton of money. Some vintage style designs include French signs (16), a Chevron pattern, or a lace style pattern seen in picture (17). We have a post here that shows great and easy painting techniques you can do to create a textured paint effect – like using a sponge to create a marble look or a dry brush to create a linen fabric effect. Vintage Wall Decor Ideas

Vintage style picture frames can be used for quite a few things. In picture (1) a frame is being used to display jewelry in a bedroom, in picture (2) another frame is being used to hang vintage postcards and letters from. In our sewing room posts there was a room that used a frame to display spools of thread. They can also be used to frame a mood board in a home office, a kitchen command center, or key hooks in a foyer.

Some print ideas that make for great wall art pieces include botanical prints (3), maps, and sheet music. Subway sign prints also look great (4). Some physical pieces to hang up include skeleton keys (5), a vintage clock (6), and wall letters (7). Though most bird cages hang down from the ceiling, there are some that can be attached to the wall (8). These can be used as key hooks, a bulletin board, or to house potted plants.

Vintage and antique door knobs can be used as curtain tie backs as seen in picture (9) or as jacket/towel hooks. Glass jars and wire baskets also make for great storage containers that can double as vintage wall decor pieces (10)1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10

The vintage sports decor pieces in the pictures above are perfect for the man cave (The Cave: Basement Ideas for Men), a man’s bedroom even, or a home bar.

When I was searching for vintage and antique styled sporting decor, quite a lot of what I was looking for was found at Restoration Hardware. All of the photos above and this post is really all about them, because what they have on offer is perfect.

Restoration Hardware have quite a few different leather balls: an American football as seen in picture (1), soccer ball, and a medicine training ball. They also have leather boxing gloves (2) and punching bags – which all work well as antique decor pieces.

Moving away from the leather goods, RH have framed flags seen in the background of picture (3). The US (4), UK, Canada, Australia, and Norway flags are available. For more abstract decor ideas, the metal letters they sell can be used to spell out the initial of a sports team (5). Or how about a vintage map of the city of your sports team (6)? RH also have cast iron dumbbells (7) and a framed cricket bat (8).

For other vintage decor items like boxing posters, framed baseball cards, baseball caps, and surfboards – Etsy and Zazzle are great places to look. Pottery Barn is another place that sells leather boxing bags, along with antique style pool tables. 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8

The Main Piece – The Crib

The biggest piece of furniture in the nursery room is going to be the crib, so this becomes the focal point in the room. If you can get a vintage styled crib then you’re halfway to creating the look – just like in pictures (1) and (2). Even if you can’t buy the right looking crib, you can easily customize a crib to a more vintage style by adding the right fabric pieces. In picture (3) the crib has been padded with pastel colored and frilly fabrics. Bedding with a botanical or bird print will blend right in with a vintage design style. Hanging a canopy over the bed will also look great (4).

Decorating With Furniture Pieces

When it comes to furniture pieces, like a dresser, pastel colored wooden pieces work best – just like the dresser in picture (5). In the same picture, wire baskets are being used as storage hangers. Some ideas for light fixtures include pastel colored paper lanterns or fairy lights (6). Or how about a mini chandelier?
