These days the rustic style varies quite a bit. It use to be more of a cabin vibe, but now you can have a French rustic feel as seen in picture (2), along with more modern or industrial rustic bathroom ideas and designs (3). The photos above and the notes below will try and cover the best way to infuse rustic decor and design into your bathroom.
Using Natural and Raw Materials: When designing a rustic bathroom you’ll want to try and infuse as much natural and raw materials as possible. Materials like stone, wood, brass, and for a more industrial design, concrete. In the photos above you can see sinks made out of stone, rustic vanities, doors and shelving made out of wood. The same materials are being used to create rustic backsplashes. Have a look at the post here for a backsplash that was made using an old wooden pallet.
For the Walls: Some ideas for the walls include more raw options like having polished concrete, stone, or painted brick. For a cleaner look check out our textured painting post. In that post you’ll find a whole bunch of ways to create a textured wall effect using paint – like how a dry brush can create a linen texture, or how a sponge can create a marble look. In that post, the pictures show a lot of colorful examples. For a more rustic look, go with natural hues – like dark green, brown, and grey.
Lighting and Accessories: When it comes to things like lighting, the go to choice would be wrought iron light fixtures. In terms of accessories, this goes back to finding items that are made from raw and natural materials. Like stone bowls, iron hooks, wooden mirrors and storage.
