Rustic Bathroom Ideas

These days the rustic style varies quite a bit. It use to be more of a cabin vibe, but now you can have a French rustic feel as seen in picture (2), along with more modern or industrial rustic bathroom ideas and designs (3). The photos above and the notes below will try and cover the best way to infuse rustic decor and design into your bathroom.

Using Natural and Raw Materials: When designing a rustic bathroom you’ll want to try and infuse as much natural and raw materials as possible. Materials like stone, wood, brass, and for a more industrial design, concrete. In the photos above you can see sinks made out of stone, rustic vanities, doors and shelving made out of wood. For the Walls: Some ideas for the walls include more raw options like having polished concrete, stone, or painted brick. For a cleaner look check out our textured painting post. In that post, the pictures show a lot of colorful examples. For a more rustic look, go with natural hues – like dark green, brown, and grey.

Lighting and Accessories: When it comes to things like lighting, the go to choice would be wrought iron light fixtures. In terms of accessories, this goes back to finding items that are made from raw and natural materials. Like stone bowls, iron hooks, wooden mirrors and storage. Here are some purple bathroom ideas and design tips: First of all you don’t really need to do too much to set a room to a color scheme. Just think of all the feature pieces in the room that could be used in the color palette you want. For example, in most bathrooms the biggest pieces (which tend to be the feature elements in the room) are the bathtub as seen in picture (1), the shower curtain if you have one (4), the cabinets, the walls (5), and the floor (6). Just by using purple on one of these areas will create a purple styled bathroom.

Painting the walls in purple (or having purple wall tiles) is defiantly one way to go. You can go all out and paint all of the walls purple or, if you want to tone it down a bit you can paint all the walls a neutral color like white/grey/black and have one feature wall that is just purple. Or instead of a feature wall, using purple cabinets in a neutral colored bathroom is another toned down alternative.

If you want to go down the accessories and decorations route, then it is best to go for a neutral color for the rest of the room. This way the purple pieces you choose will really pop out and create that purple decor style you’re looking for.

Don’t forget the shade of purple you choose will set the tone and feel of the room. A light colored shade will keep the bathroom feeling large and bright (8). While a dark shade will make the room feel a lot more intimate and cozier. 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8

One of the easiest and most effective ways of transforming a bathroom is by adding a frame or replacing an existing mirror frame. Because the mirror in most bathrooms take up so much space, they become a focal piece. The style of the frame can set the design tone for the rest of the room. Take a look at the different styles in pictures (1) and (2).

Go Large: When it comes to bathroom mirror ideas, the old design principle still holds true. A large mirror can make a small and compact room feel much larger and spacious (3) (4).

Vanity Design: If you have a large vanity space, you can always break it up by having a his and hers sink and a separate mirror for each sink just like in picture (5). Or have a long mirror to share (6).

Lighting: Lighting plays a big role in making grooming convenient and comfortable. The ideal set up is to have one light on both sides of the mirror at face level and another light attached to the wall right above the mirror. This way you reduce the amount of shadows that are casted across the face. Another way of making grooming as easy as possible is to install one of those pull out side mirrors – the ones that you can flip over and there is a magnified side.

Zen Style: Japanese Bathroom Design Ideas

It doesn’t take much to turn an ordinary bathroom into a more Japanese style. The first step is to declutter like crazy. Keep everything so clean and simple that it is beautiful. You want to have a minimalist feeling bathroom, and this means stripping everything down. Once that is done, you only really need one or two main focal pieces to create the right style – check out picture (5), just using a plant and an elegant wooden bench creates that Japanese bathroom design style.

Other than a clean design, the other main design principle when it comes to Japanese and zen bathroom decor is the use of natural elements. The color scheme is based on earth tones, like green plants, stone grey, and wooden tones.

In the pictures above you can see bathroom designs that make great use of wood for everything from the flooring, to the bathtub and sink. Simple ideas like a teak shower mat or bamboo blinds are great pieces to start with. Stones and plants also play a big role in a Zen bathroom. Have some greenery like bamboo plants, while pebble rocks (11) can be used to line the floor or used as decor pieces on the shelves.
